Eat something, anything before you head out and you will be protecting yourself against getting too drunk too quickly. It’s so easy to forget to grab something when you have more important stuff to worry about like getting ready or trying to coordinate taxis to take you all out.  But it’s also really easy to pick up a couple of pizzas to pop in the oven whilst you are getting ready, or to have a couple of slices of toast.
